Freelancing is the choice that many people are making more and more when it comes to generating an income. They are not well-suited for the 9 to 5 style, and they want to make an income by doing something that they are passionate about and are good at.
Freelancers are also known as service providers or contractors will offer services to others for a fee over a certain timeframe. Businesses often prefer to hire freelancers over agencies because they are usually less expensive than agencies. Additionally, freelancers are quite cost-effective for companies due to the fact that they don’t need to pay for an employee. They can just hire someone remotely to do the work without having to worry about paying for their insurance or for other overhead.
Freelances make the choice to make a career out of it for the following 6 reasons:
1. A Legitimate Way To Work From Home
Freelancers don’t have to worry about the stress that comes with traveling to work every morning and going back home during the late afternoon. They don’t need to worry about sitting in the rush hour traffic which wastes a lot of time, energy, and fuel. They can work in the comfort of their own home instead which is the dream that many people who work at offices far away from home have.
2. They Can Be There Own Boss
Freelancers don’t need to answer to anyone else. They can be their own boss and make their own rules. They can offer the services that they want to offer without being told what to do, and they can set the price points that they feel is fair to them and to the buyer. Common freelance services that are offered are:
- Writing
- Web design
- Graphic design
- Social media management
- SEO
- Event management
- Bookkeeping
- Editing and proofreading
3. It’s A Lifestyle Choice
The idea of working from home and freelancing has its perks and it is also a lifestyle choice that many find appealing. They don’t need to deal with the monotony of working for an employer and they can get into the mindset of trying out new challenges and can find new opportunities as well.
4. It’s A Thing To Do To If You Are In Between Jobs
For those who do intend to work but have not had a permanent job placement, and are in between jobs – freelancing is a way to quickly earn some money. It can take time to build a sustainable income with freelancing. However, after building a great Fiverr profile and a list of gigs, money can be made quite quickly to help you get by during those in-between stages.
5. It Can Be A Quick Way To Make Some Money
Making a sustainable income through freelancing will take time, but in order to get started, some can come fast. It depends on how much time you put into it as well. If you take a lot of time working on a captivating Fiverr or Upwork profile and you are reaching out to potential clients on platforms like LinkedIn, then there is a high chance you will end up with a freelancing gig quickly. It is not nearly as slow as making money from blogging alone as that takes a lot of time.
6. Experience Is Gained
The one thing that is gained by freelancing is experience. It can be gained from positive and negative things that occur on the freelancing journey. But contractors will learn how to work with different types of clients, and learn how to cater to different needs, and this helps them become quite well-rounded.
The number of freelancers is increasing and it is apparent why as there are perks that come with this lifestyle. The money is not always consistent, but it is flowing as long as the contractor is making their services known.

I am really confused about Freelance for a long time. I was facing lots of problems due to Freelance Job. Thanks to You. Your post is like very little information is there for everyone.
Thanks for sharing.
I am a freelancer, and from the last 8 years, I am freelancing on several platforms. You are right that it’s a lifestyle choice. Here I am my own boss. Here no one will tell you what you have to do and how. So I think it is freedom.
Hey Miriam.
Thanks for taking me in time 5 years back. One of the reasons I became a freelancer was a blend of freedom and the excitement of doing something of my own. Years later, I haven’t regretted my choice. I have migrated from freelancing to starting my business and am glad that people have similar thoughts to share.
Fun read!
This article caught my attention because I’ve been in discussions with my supervisor about working from home (not exactly freelancing). Could you write an article about “convincing your boss to let you work from home”.
Thanks for commenting. I can create something that includes something like this. Thanks for the idea.
