You probably have noticed that more and more business owners are hosting their own podcasts. They realize how essential having their own podcast is for their business. However, there are also a lot of entrepreneurs who are hesitant to even go down that route for several reasons- one being the idea of them putting themselves out there beyond blogging and being active on social media scares them; the second one being that they have the belief that hosting their own podcasts will involve them having to learn new software and buy expensive equipment.
I will tell you right now that it is not required to buy expensive equipment to host a podcast. You will have to spend money, as we all do if we want to grow our businesses. However, if you are really put off by learning how to operate new equipment and software- then you can create an account at Blog Talk Radio. Sure, you can sign up for a free account. However, if you do that, be prepared to do a lot of marketing on your own. The upgraded services offer you marketing on their end and I say it is worth it because they receive a huge amount of traffic. You are also given an option to have a podcast that is longer than an hour. I think having a half hour podcast is best because a lot of people may not have the attention span to listen to an hour show. People are busy, but that does not mean they are not interested. In fact, even busy people are interested in what you have to share. I will now share the 3 reasons that business owners need to have their own podcast.
1. Expands your Reach Even More– By having your own podcast, you will be reaching out to those who might be missing what you are sharing on social media alone- even if you are sharing a blog post. One of the reasons for that is that plenty of people are constantly searching for podcasts. Plenty of people have been followed on social media due to their podcasts alone. Podcasts will give you massive exposure.
2. Building Authority and Influence– One way to really spread your influence is by hosting podcasts about what you want to be known for. If you share interesting and useful information- others will see you as an authority in your field.
3. Podcasting is an Excellent Tribe Building Tactic– If your podcasts are catchy and informative, before you know it you will have a slew of new followers who will very likely stick with you. These followers will certainly be always looking forward to what you have to share. Not to mention, who do you think they will hire or refer others to if they need a service that you provide?
These are just some of the reasons that business owners need to host their own podcasts. Next time, I will go into more detail on how to create a catchy podcast.
HI Miriam, I love how you use podcasts as a tribe building tactic, I’m afriad I’m not quirky enough to stand out from the crowd!
Hey Sarah you may surprise yourself 🙂 Thanks for the comment.
Well podcasts are certainly all the rage but they seem like an enormous amount of work. Guess I’ll have to find a niche where I can just interview interesting people
It sounds overwhelming but you can make it quite simple, thanks for the comment.
There are so many awesome ways to promote your business and expertise online, and podcasting is a great example of that. Just don’t think I can add another thing!
You are so right Dawn!
