As soon as each scam is found to be just that, scammers find new creative ways to scam people. And sadly, many people end up falling for those scams. Scammers create all kinds of ploys to trap you. At first, they would call you out of the blue claiming that they work for Microsoft.? Then, they would tell you that your computer is not working and that you need to “hire” them to fix your computer!
Other scammers call you and claim that they are from the government and that they are after you because you did not pay your taxes. And, there are those employment scams around as well.
And that is what I want to talk about today. The other day, I received the following email:
I decided to blot out the name because there was no point in revealing that. However, these types of employment scams have been happening for years. And, the worst part about this particular one is that they are claiming to be part of a real company, and are even using an email address that is associated with a real company.
In the past, if they used a Gmail account, then others would figure out quite quickly that they are scamming. However, if they use an email address that appears to be tied to a real company, then, people could end up falling for this.
For the love of God, do not fall for this type of trap! They go through sites like LinkedIn as well as employment sites like ZipRecruiter. This is how they find your name and email address. They tell you that they are looking to hire you out of the blue, and are not even clear about what role you are meant to take.
Many of these employment scammers tell you that their “company” is looking for “payment processors”, but this particular one was quite vague.
What they really want is your delicate information such as your banking info, social security or social insurance info, and they would even have the nerve to ask you for a copy of your driver’s license.? They want to steal your identity and your money.? And, the best way for them to do this is for them to contact anyone who appears to be looking for a job. That is because they prey on desperation- and will assume that every job seeker is desperate even if that is not necessarily the case.
If you are looking for a job, and you receive a strange email that is similar to what I shared, then delete it! Don’t engage with it. Don’t respond to it. It’s a trap, and they are there to ruin you!
